The superfecta is traditionally a $1 minimum bet with payoffs averaging in the $1,000’s. It is not uncommon to see $1 superfecta payoffs in excess of $10,000 on a daily basis. A $1 superfecta bet will buy you one combination of four numbers. Those who are successful at playing the $1 superfecta will bet many combinations of numbers in order to increase their chances of winning. The typical $1 superfecta player will bet between $24 and $120 per race. The $1 superfecta is not a bet suited to all horseplayers as it requires “deep pockets” to play effectively. However, in recent years, many racetracks across the country have adopted a 10-cent minimum bet on the superfecta, making it more affordable for the average horseplayer to play the superfecta. The payoff on a winning 10-cent superfecta bet will return 10% of the posted $1 payoff, which can mean $100’s, $1,000’s or even more. In the event a lone 10-cent superfecta ticket is the only winning ticket sold in a particular race, the holder wins the entire superfecta pool! The idea of a 10-cent minimum superfecta bet started out as a “gimmick” at a greyhound racetrack to help it compete with the growing number of casinos and penny slot machines. On Friday, September 3, 2004, Hinsdale Greyhound Park in New Hampshire became the very first racetrack to offer 10-cent superfecta betting. It was done as sort of an experiment on just a few of their races to see if it might help attract some new fans. The 10-cent superfecta not only attracted new fans, but it also became an instant hit with the racetrack regulars. This popular new bet then soon began to spread to other greyhound racetracks. On February 17, 2005, Sam Houston Park in Texas became the first thoroughbred racetrack to offer the bet and the list has been growing steadily ever since.
You will
now find 10-cent superfecta betting at almost all racetracks across the country
including greyhound, harness, quarter horse and thoroughbred racetracks. |
